This is evident in his rendering of muscles—what the artist sees as the common denominator of all human beings—such that they become reminiscent of flower petals, sea shells, fins, and grass, while works like “The Gift of Love” depict human figures containing an aggregate of seascapes. As such, Salamat’s distinct portraits suggest that his subjects embody notions like interconnectedness and harmony with nature, as well as hope, peace, and love, all of which were intended to be represented and reinforced by his vibrant palette.
