Over/View
A Group Exhibition
September 28 – October 6, 2022
In its more than 50 years in the Philippine art scene, printmaking has progressed from a humble medium with just a handful of printmakers into an art form that is now being explored by many artists from various regions in the Philippines.
The growth of the printmaking movement can be traced to its founding father, Manuel Rodriguez, Sr. in 1968 and was known as the Philippine Association of Printmakers. The Association of Pinoyprintmakers (AP), a group of printmakers in the country, has since been supporting local printmakers and international visiting artists.
Over/View attempts to present a survey of the current practice of printmaking in the country.
Prints from different periods in Philippine art from the 70s to the present are showcased to give a glimpse of the evolution of the medium in terms of its context and material. The role of the artists has always been to observe, experience, reflect, and translate these into a tactile unit using various media. The body of these artistic works picks into the artists’ minds and how they adapt to the ongoing transitions in our environment. It is the AP’s aspiration to continue to inform the public about the rich tradition of printmaking and hopefully create a wider appreciation of the medium as a significant art form in the present times.
